  • What’s big in interior design for 2014

Posted on 3rd February 2014 by Ben.

At this time of year style magazines and industry commentators try to predict and dictate the essential design motifs that will be on trend for the year ahead. Pantone have already thrown its hat into the ring when it declared Radiant Orchid as its shade for 2014. But what other colours, patterns and textures are also set to be on everyone’s lips this year?

    Oscuro-Teal-Electric-Roller-Blind

Blue One of the few colours that many designers are agreeing will dominate in 2014 is blue. It’s an ideal accent colour for most rooms whether it’s a kitchen in shades of light blue or a bathroom with a navy blue feature wall. More muted shades of Teal and Turquoise will also lend a stylish feel to a living room or bedroom. Corduroy Upholstery It sounds like a strange one but corduroy covered furniture is set to be big this year. It’s a fabric that you’ll either love or hate, with its connotations of bad 70s flares and geography teachers, but thick, bold textures are making a comeback and a set of electric roman blinds in a complementary material would tie your living room together nicely.

    Perla-Soft-Gold-Roller-Blind

Silver and gold There’s a definite move towards opulence and fussy detail this year, not least in the trend for pairing silver and gold together. In most spaces this can easily be pulled out with silver ornaments and gilt-edged mirrors. But patterns like flock print or stripes on your soft furnishings and blinds will help complete the look. Blinging kitchens The fashion for bling has also found its way to the kitchen with a move to the opposite end of the spectrum from the modern, clean minimalist kitchen of previous years. This look consists of dark shades, mixed with classical motifs such as ornate cornices and bejewelled details such as crystal cupboard handles. It can come across very Victorian in style and can be topped off with a big crystal chandelier for good measure. Neo-classical decoration If any of the above doesn’t make you feel opulent enough then another recurring motif for 2014 is neo-classical sculpture, or to put it another way - big faux Grecian and Roman busts. Alongside all the other bling that’s in this year your home could end up looking very Versace and distinctly decadent.

    Honey-Wood-Blinds

Honey-toned woods A far simpler trend for the New Year is for honey-toned woods. So instead of the vintage, rough or untreated wood of previous years beautifully amber-toned wood with a smooth lacquered veneer is now in. It brings an easy warmth to any communal space such as your dining room and ticks both the natural and the stylish boxes.

  • The Convivial Kitchen

Posted on 25th January 2011 by yasmin.

Whether you have a large family busily rushing around the kitchen of a morning or love to throw lavish dinner parties for an abundance of friends and family, your kitchen is the heart of the home and a magnet for formal and informal occasions alike.

It is essential that your kitchen is up to the challenge here and it takes some careful planning to create a kitchen space that can double up as a living space, so here I provide for you my top tips on how to do exactly that!

Low noise levels - Choose energy efficient appliances with low noise levels like the near silent AEG diswashers, this will ensure that conversation carries on, even when you are cooking.  It also means that you can put your dishwasher or washing machine on when you are entertaining friends, after all its never nice to wake up to the washing up the morning after the night before now is it?

Welcome light - Try to ensure that your kitchen area is light and welcoming; this in turn will ensure that your family and guests want to spend time in the kitchen. The key here is to not make the space appear too dark so ensure that you stay away from dark colours on your walls unless they are in blocks. Window dressing is also important here as you want to ensure that the room gets as much natural light as possible, this can be achieved by making sure that your blinds allow light to gently filter through into the room such as our Liso Wickerware roller blinds. Venetian blinds are also a great choice for the hi-tech kitchen as the metal slats can be rotated with a wireless remote control, allowing complete control over ambient light levels in the room. The Controliss Silver Venetian blinds powered with household batteries are definitely worth a closer look as the popular metallic silver finish offers a great back drop for stainless steel appliances.

Make the space fun - If you have children in the house then ensure that the space is fun for them as well as serving its purpose for the rest of the household. Whether you have lettering magnets on the fridge, funky furniture or fabulously colourful art on the walls, what surrounds an individual really can have an impact on that individual’s mood.

So go on, transform your kitchen into an attractive and welcoming space!

  • Add Glamour to Your Bedroom with Electric Blinds

Posted on 25th November 2010 by jenny.

Who doesn't want some glamour in their lives? Satisfying our appetite for a glamorous and dazzling home can be easier and less expensive than we think. Controliss gives you some advice on how to create an enchanting and glamorous bedroom with a chic and glitzy edge. Colour schemes for the glamorous look should concentrate on jewel tones, whites, and creams. Pale pastel colours will also work great in this style, but if you find them too feminine, find inspiration in rich browns or black and white prints, but try to stay away from natural colours. Instead take your cue from jewels, such as diamonds, quartz, amethyst, ruby, or emerald. When you hear the word “glamorous,” you instantly think about the magnetic beauty of gold, silver, or diamonds. Look for wallpaper in with gold accents that will warm your bedroom’s atmosphere. These gold and silver accents will have a shimmery effect especially if you add some carefully placed mood lighting.  Speaking of mood lighting, you can create a dramatic effect in your lighting with a chandelier laced with diamanté or pearls which will create a dramatic ritzy effect. Another way to add glamour to your bedroom is through furniture. Look for ornate furniture or mirrored surfaces when you’re shopping for bedroom pieces. A French-inspired bed will be a great focal point for your bedroom with their intricate detailing. Cover your bed with neutral white beddings, but make sure that it’s in a luxurious fabric, such as silk or satin.  Add a dressing table along the same themes to reduce clutter and add storage space. Sparkling Pearlescent finishes should be included in your window blinds. Electric Roller Blinds in the glamorous Viveza Platinum or the sparkling metallic print finish of Plata Swan are a great choice for adding that extra panache to your window. Metallic Electric Venetian blinds in Stardust Silver and Stardust Gold will also add extra glitter to your bedroom. Fill your bedroom with pretty things, such as antique perfume bottles or silk scarves as a finishing touch. Cushions covered in sequins will be a fun addition which will add sparkle to your bedroom. Look for vintage items such as an antique hairbrush or hatboxes to complete the look. A glamorous bedroom will make you feel like a gorgeous movie star, so bask in the glory of a Hollywood-inspired bedroom without going through the trials brought by fame.
