    Bright Electric Roller Blinds

If your home has large expanses of glass, that perhaps dominate most of one or two walls, adding remote control blinds gives you a great opportunity to change the whole look and feel of a room just with the touch of a button. But it’s not just a case of changing the amount of light coming into a room, or even blocking out the outdoor space to create a more intimate atmosphere. The colour and texture of the roller fabric can transform a space, complementing or contrasting with your other furnishings. They could make it a bright, energetic space or a dark, relaxing room. In a sense, you could think of your large roller blind as a kind of feature wall that you raise or lower to suit your mood. Photographers use white and metallic surfaces to reflect and complement their lighting when taking pictures. Inversely they use black surfaces to absorb light. If you’re using large expanses of a colour it’s worth knowing how it will affect the lighting, both natural and electric, in the room. Here are a few tips for choosing the shade and colour of your electric blinds. It’s worth noting that electric roller blinds provide more opportunities for unbroken expanses of colour with single spans of fabric. Be bright Bright, zesty colours work well in communal spaces where you want the atmosphere to be friendly and spacious. They can also give a room a sense of energy and can help put you in a good mood. When the weather isn’t so great outside or it’s getting dark a bright colour will keep things fun, friendly and lively. If you want to go bright, bathrooms and kitchens work well in vibrant colours, while a splash of colour in your home office will help keep your energy levels up. Go dark Dark, sober colours can give a room a real sense of sophistication. Contrasted with light coloured walls they can make a bold statement and transform a light airy space into a more intimate one. Effectively giving the same space two different ‘personalities’ to suit your mood. With this new sense of intimacy you can create a romantic or relaxed atmosphere, which makes it ideal for bedrooms. But like the photographer, you can use dark coloured powered blinds as a blackout for part of your home cinema set up in your living room. Not only will it block out the light but a dark shade will also subdue the lighting in the room, letting you focus on the big screen.

  • Keeping it all natural

Posted on 25th July 2013 by jenny.

If you’re after a natural look and feel to your home there’s no reason why you can’t incorporate a set of electric blinds into the design. We offer a wide range of electric wooden blinds in a variety of finishes that will complement other wooden details and furnishings in your home. Our range of electric roller blinds also feature a number of natural shades and textures that will blend with your soft furnishings to create a natural feel. A more natural environment at home can create a calm, relaxing oasis even in the heart of the city. Maybe you’re trying to produce a counterpoint to the view out of your window or complement it. So if you look out onto an urban landscape of houses and rooftops you may want to break up the grey, angular view with rough textures and natural colours. Alternatively, if you look out onto a lush garden and expansive skies you may want to bring the outside in to your home by using a similar colour palette of greens and blues.

    Textura Mist Electric Roller Blind

Natural shades Creams and browns allow you to mix light and dark shades, and go with most things particularly similar shades of wood. Greens and yellows can be much fresher and brighter but are better used sparingly as they are difficult to complement and can be overpowering. Lighter blues work well to evoke summer skies or Mediterranean seas. Coupled with a sandy beige textured blind certain blues can transport you to the beach, while accompanied by greens can take you to bright summer days.

    Driftwood Electric Wood Blind

Natural textures Unfinished or stripped wood, like driftwood or old reclaimed furniture, has great irregular textures. If you have a piece of furniture or decoration that has an amazing texture you can use that to suggest your room’s wider colour palette and other furnishings. Soft furnishings are an easy way to get more textures. Go for rugs, sofas and blinds that work well together in similar shades and textures. Rough, irregular textures appear more natural and work well with the random patterns you get in nature such as the grain in wood.

    Electric-Curtain-Tracks

Whether it be luxury homes, quality hotels or dynamic conference venues, motorised curtains are becoming a standard requisite in this type of high-end project. Our exquisitely designed remote control tracks are extremely robust, yet discrete and can even be concealed within a ceiling recess.  Nothing creates greater visual impact than beautifully crafted curtains moving virtually silently, across a span of up to 10 metres, at the touch of a single button! The sophistication of Controliss electric curtain tracks is reflected in the simple form and sleek lines of the powerful motor and rail.  The motor is covered neatly, housing an integrated power supply; having the capability to offer a large range of control options, with adjustable limits to allow the curtains to fall naturally. Just like our electric blinds ranges, the curtain tracks are operable either individually or as groups of tracks, just by varying the choice of remote control handset. Installation is a simple operation with a basic electrical connection; ensuring the experience of an electric curtain track and all the associated benefits, could not be easier. These electric curtain tracks are so versatile, they incorporate Touch Motion functionality, to open and close the curtain by lightly pulling on the fabric, without the use of a remote control.  The motor drive shaft disengages automatically to permit use of the Touch Motion function.  The curtain tracks can also be personalised; to stop at preferred levels of opening, even the speed of operation is adjustable, with all tracks having soft start and stop as a standard feature. We can not only guarantee our tacks with a warranty for 5 years, but more importantly, we guarantee that any visitors will not fail to be impressed by the power of motion; so for any projects scheduled for 2013, where that ever important 'wow' factor is vital, then the simple solution is a Controliss electric curtain track!

    Somfy Thermosunis RTS Sensor

Although our Winter so far has been relatively mild, it will not have escaped
your notice, that the wind has been unprecedented! The wind chill factor has made it seem much colder than the thermometer might suggest.
So as temperatures drop and fuel bills inevitably increase, just imagine if half of your precious heat was escaping through your windows!

From my years as a practising interior designer, I would have banked on fully interlined curtains in a heavyweight fabric having greater insulation properties than a roller blind, I would be wrong!  In mind of keeping warm, I read an article recently
that I found quite surprising; curtains can cut heat loss by 14% whereas roller blinds are double that at 28%.  wooden venetian blinds offer a very impressive 50% reduction in heat loss, as wood is a natural insulator.

The key to energy efficiency, is the ability to control the energy either created or consumed. Thoughtful use of solar shading is a highly efficient way to achieve such control.

Remote control blinds create a minimalistic method of trapping a layer of still air between your windows or doors, and the internal room space; reducing heat transfer in both hot and cold conditions.
Opening the blinds during the day in Winter, allows natural warmth from any available sunlight to warm the interior; this is known as solar gain.  Closing the blinds at night, reduces the possibility of that heat escaping.

At the other end of the scale, the blinds repel the sun's heat in Summer, preventing unwanted solar heat gain and maintaining a more consistent temperature internally.  These very simple steps can reduce the need for heating and air-conditioning,
in turn saving you money.

This control process is known as the "shading coefficient"; careful choice of window treatment greatly influences the shading coefficient value, thus lowering your heating and cooling expenses. In fact, adding wooden venetian
blinds to your window is comparable to installing double glazing in terms of heat conservation!

Controliss Blinds are available in a vast array of fabrics and finishes, whether they are mains powered or battery operated. Not only do they make an impressive interior design statement, combined with the ultimate convenience of remote control; they can ultimately save you money by increasing the shading coefficient of your home.

    At Controliss, we
have all solar reflectance and transmittance values for all of the fabrics and finishes we use.

We can offer an additional stage to increasing your thermal shading requirements, by incorporating  a programmable remote control, this facility permits 6 user programmable timed operations per day.  The benefit of this programmable feature actually simulates occupancy in an empty house, and will enable the thermal properties of the blinds to utilised even when you are away.

For the ultimate in window blind shading control our wireless Somfy Themosunis indoor sensor will raise or lower the shades automatically according to sunlight levels or sunlight and room temperature. The wirefree easy to use sensor is compatible with all Controliss mains powered blinds and a single sensor can operate up to four Controliss Roller blinds or wooden Venetian blinds.

  • Pause for Thought!

Posted on 9th January 2012 by Jules.

Once all the frivolity of the festive season has died down, if you are anything like me, you will be sitting there thinking of all the New Years resolutions you will be making, and most likely breaking! If you have a busy life, as most of us do these days, then generally Christmas time is the only time of year we may be at home, allegedly relaxing!  Historically, it as this point we start to make plans for the year ahead, whether it is holidays or home improvements. If you have a home improvement project planned for 2012, then it is never too early to start contemplating the types of furniture and finishes you intend to incorporate.  As an Interior Designer, I see the same mistakes made time and time again, where Clients have not planned early enough in advance. When designing a lighting scheme, it is vital that you know what you will be lighting and where it will be positioned.  For instance, in a Dining Room, usually one would position the decorative and task lighting directly over the dining table, then the decorative and mood lighting positioned accordingly.  If little thought goes in to this aspect early on, the electrician will automatically position the lighting cable at first fix stage, in the centre of the ceiling.  The table may not require a central position once the storage and other furniture are included, so floor layouts play a huge part in design, even at first fix electrical stage. We encounter this kind of oversight on a daily basis at Controliss blinds.  Our 240v remote control blinds require a switched fuse spur to be installed remotely, from the window.  The feed from the spur then runs up to the top of the window reveal, for connection to the roller blind motor on installation.  The introduction of this fuse spur and feed should be done pre-plaster stage to avoid consequential damage by having to install retrospectively. If you have the facility within your project, it is well worth considering how you can conceal the roller tube and brackets.  Many of our customers, particularly Architects and Designers will make provision to recess the blind tubes within the ceiling recess, or within a stud wall cavity. If you are fitting our 240V electric blinds at a later stage in your project, we are able to offer a very stylish concealed headrail system, called a Contour Cassette system.  This system houses the roller blind, and conceals the fixings within, so the result is streamlined and sophisticated, the epitome of design finesse! Our customer service team are always available to offer advice on fabric choices and methods of integration. So if you are currently sitting back, full to the brim with turkey, contemplating your interior projects for 2012, spare a thought for not simply what you wish to achieve, but how!

  • All I Want for Christmas Is a Kitchen

Posted on 30th November 2011 by Jules.

I can confirm that I am firmly in denial!  Having been presented with a "Chrismas Wish List" by my 7 year old yesterday, I slipped in to panic mode, realising that the big day is only 4 weeks away!!  I haven't done a thing, which is not unusual for me; favouring a 'last minute rush' each year!  I couldn't decide whether the 'wish list' was incredibly cutesy or really manipulative.  After each item, in brackets appeared "only if you have enough money" and then the very last item was "Keep my family happy" in brackets ("the main thing").  Well, needless to say whatever the motivation, mission accomplished! In addition to not doing any Christmas shopping, at the moment of speaking we don't have a kitchen to cook Christmas lunch in! Christmas is traditionally a time when people try and get projects completed, so that the fruits of their labour can be enjoyed at leisure over the festive season; hopefully our kitchen will be one of these projects!  At Controliss Blinds we are extremely busy keeping up with Christmas demand for our motorised blinds; our order books are high for both 240V electric blinds and battery powered blinds. We have some exciting new fabrics ready to come online in the next few weeks, and as the 'In- house designer" at Controliss, I have had the delightful task of putting the collections together. We have some fantastic, inspirational contemporary fabrics alongside superb, opulent classics ranges.  We have a new designer Visio-lux range, of cosmopolitan screen fabrics (which incidentally I have chosen for my own kitchen!), these fabrics look incredibly stylish and diffuse the light, providing privacy without blocking the light completely. I can't wait to enjoy the experience of mains powered remote control blinds in my own kitchen.  The former stable block has become the kitchen in our barn conversion, so we have a series of windows along one elevation, so the motorised blinds are perfect as we can program them to operate as a complete group, moving up and down simultaneously, at specified times, how impressive? We have chosen some fairly high-tech appliances from Siemens, incorporating s Steam Oven alongside 2 conventional and a microwave. I figured if it is good enough for Kelly Hoppen then it is good enough for us! Adding to the touch control technology of our motorised blinds, is the sleek De Dietrich Downdraft Extractor which rises majestically from the island worksurface at the mere touch of a button! Obviously I shall only be able to impress my guests with my fabulous new blinds if I have an equally impressive kitchen installed, so fingers crossed!!

  • The Fountain Effect

Posted on 8th November 2011 by Chris.

Electric blinds are the smart, stylish way to control the amount of natural light coming into your home. With a multitude of exiting design options in fabrics that will stop light getting through entirely, light filtering fabrics that offer good levels of privacy, and our trend setting Visio-Lux diffusion collection that allows a level of vision whilst still giving protection from the sun. Controliss Blinds have an ever-expanding range of products to suit any of these needs, but if you have a wonderful view from your windows or have put a considerable amount of effort into creating a magnificent garden scene, you may regret installing window blinds that stop you enjoying such a sight when not open. Roller blinds fabrics are available that include hi-tech mesh-like designs, semi-transparent patterns and even screens with a solar-reflecting back layer to help keep your home cooler. Having a pleasing view to look at without the harsh glare of the sun can significantly lift your mood when relaxing at home and there are innumerable products that you can obtain to further improve your garden scene.can add notably to the character of your garden are water features. There are many options and styles for these, from the complex but spectacular, to the simple yet charming. UK Water Features offer a vast range of such products, including the Oase Jumping Jet Rainbow Star and more self-contained models like the Sphere Stainless Steel Water Feature, as well as wire-free solar powered units. They also provide a service in designing and building custom made water features that would be perfect for an utterly unique and enticing garden landscape.

The Oase Jumping Jack Rainbow Star can release and illuminate jets of water at adjustable levels to produce arc-shaped streams of water. The light, colours and water patterns are combined to create various pre-programmed displays and sets can be added on to assemble a truly unique water show in your own garden. If you would prefer to add a more self-contained focal point to your garden the popular and modern-looking Sphere Stainless Steel Water Feature is available in sizes ranging from 30cm to 100cm in diameter and the water is lit by LEDs as it is pumped from the top of the sphere. Water features could also be introduced as an indoor decorative accessory. The Smart Solar water features have an optional indoor power adaptor, so they can operate wire-free in the garden or on a balcony through solar power or they can be plugged in and then added as a complement to your interior. While water features are a highly favourable inclusion in a garden landscape plan, they are just as effective at creating a peaceful mood for your business or offices. For instance, imagine entering a restaurant where the décor is opulently adorned, as the daylight dims, plush lighting comes on and your Controliss remote control blinds that superbly compliment such décor, lower themselves automatically. Then, as a focal point for all clientèle, one or more water features are situated in the dining area, delivering soothing sound and a visually captivating display through the simple flow of water. Such an atmosphere is sure create a memorable and blissful experience.
